PARALLAX, Session 5: Twin Suns
Session 5 of the campaign PARALLAX for Delta Green, where things get moving before Lawrence is contacted again.
Scene setup
Expectations: Lawrence is contacted again 2 days later. He meets the team in a safehouse and gets the details of operation PARALLAX.
Expected scene test roll: Interrupt scene
Event focus roll: NPC action
Event meaning roll: Invade + News
NPC list roll: choose or roll again => I choose Colleen Kaminski
My interpretation: while waiting to be contacted again, Lawrence reads on the news something about Colleen Kaminski. Details TBD.
The bag goes back on my head, and I’m driven back into the city in total silence. They drop me a few blocks from home. I go straight to bed, but sleep is a foreign concept. Every time I close my eyes, I see that shifting, impossible color.
The next day, I head to work. The wait for the next contact is already becoming unbearable, a low-frequency hum of anxiety beneath my skin. I’m early, so I sit at my desk and nurse a coffee while browsing the morning paper.
A name jumps off the page: Colleen Kaminski.
Fate Question: Was Colleen Kaminski found dead?
Answer: Yes.
Location Roll: Valuable + Aggressive
Interpretation: She was killed during a violent attempted robbery.
Kaminski was shot dead by a security guard while trying to rob a jewelry store. According to the report, she was acting alone and appeared to be in the midst of a total mental breakdown. She’d lunged at the guard with a knife, screaming unintelligible phrases, leaving him no choice but to fire.
My pulse quickens. Should I wait for the Program, or use my position to dig? I already know the answer. I pick up the phone and call Jo.
Lawrence: "Jo. I just read the news about the Kaminski girl. What happened out there?"
Jo: "God, it was awful, Law. I was first on the scene. The girl was completely detached from reality—totally psychotic. She was screaming religious nonsense the whole time. The guard said right before she lunged at him, she yelled: 'Stranger is his name, yet his tatters drape across our souls. By the Twin Suns, it is finished.' Sounds like some satanic cult shit if you ask me."
Lawrence: "Jesus. Any idea what she was involved in?"
Jo: "Not yet, but I’m digging. Why the interest?"
Lawrence: "Just professional curiosity. Jo, can you confirm if she had a tattoo? On her left forearm?"
Fate Question: Was the tattoo still there?
Answer: Yes.
Jo: "Yeah, actually. LaRoux was right—she had that ugly ink on her left arm. Why? You think that’s a lead?"
Lawrence: "Maybe. Thanks, Jo. Talk soon."
I hang up, my hand trembling slightly. The tattoo didn't just move from the girl to the paramedic—it reproduced. The parasite hypothesis is looking more like a certainty.
There is another body out there carrying the infection. Is the morgue already a hot zone? My train of thought is interrupted by my desk phone. No caller ID.
I pick up.
Pariah: "701 Decatur Street. Now."
The line goes dead.
Decatur Street. The French Quarter. I’m going to have to take an unplanned leave of absence, and my boss is already on edge after the Baptiste disappearance. And Sally... I’ll have to tell her more lies. The weight on my chest is getting heavier, but I don't hesitate. I grab my coat and head for the door.
